The casino is the garden level of this house, directly below the ballroom

Vridlova Casino is at the river end of the garden level, where the boiler and the laundry used to be. It belongs to the hotel and is run by the hotel, and you reach it from inside the building without stepping outside.

Take the anteroom stair down from the first floor, or go straight down from reception, then along the garden-level corridor past the spa. The last door is the one you want, about forty-five paces from the desk, and it is staffed whenever the room is open.

The room

Nine tables under a brick vault

The casino floor is nine tables and a bar along the garden wall. On a Wednesday in March four are open; in the first week of July all nine are and the door is counted. The ceiling is the original brick vaulting, which was plastered over in 1958 and uncovered again in 1996.

The casino prefers a jacket but does not require one, since the house would sooner see you as you are than not at all. Sportswear and spa slippers are not accepted, though people do try.

Last entry is at half past two and the tables close at three, with the bar in the casino stopping twenty minutes before that.

Age and document

18, checked at the door every visit

Czech law sets the casino age at 18 and the house applies it to everyone. A document is checked on every visit, so a guest who had breakfast in the ballroom that morning shows one again at the door.

Accepted documents are a passport, a national identity card or a driving licence showing a date of birth. A photograph of one on a telephone will not do, and the staff on that door have heard every version of the argument.

Nobody under 18 enters the casino at any hour, including the hours when it is closed and being cleaned.

Limits and stopping

Both arranged with a person, on the spot

Limits are set on the casino floor by the staff working it. Say your figure before you sit down and it is written down and held for the evening. If you would rather they suggested one, they will, and their figure is usually close.

Stopping the casino is arranged in person at reception. It cannot be done on this page or by telephone. Self-exclusion is signed at the desk and takes effect that evening, and it is lifted only by returning to the desk in person.

The floor offers no credit of any kind, and there is no cash machine on the garden level or anywhere else in the building.

This website offers no gaming

No games, bets, deposits or payments here

This is a land-based casino on the garden level of a hotel in Karlovy Vary, and that is the whole description. The website runs no games, takes no stakes and holds no accounts, and no money moves through it.

To play, you come to Zahradní 14, show a document at the last door on the garden level and sit down. That is the only way in, and none of it happens on this page.
